I would like to take this opportunity to share my thoughts on the past year and how we are positioned for 2011. I think you will agree with me that this year’s challenges stemmed from increasing product demand and acute price pressure.
Due to the global recovery, and solid positioning in overseas we saw a dramatic 35% increase in sales over 2009. This helped us to increase our market share by 2%. All of our products have become more challenging to produce and require greater attention to detail. We will need to rely on efficiency improvements more than ever before as we continue to grow.
While we have good quality systems and - relative to the overwhelming majority of businesses - very good quality, it is clear we need to improve. Given the recent price pressure and thin margins in the electronics market we simply can no longer afford the costs associated with non-conformities.
As we close out 2010, I want to say that I am acutely aware of the effort which everyone provides in order for XYZ to be successful. I am very thankful and appreciative of this effort and hope that each of you share in the satisfaction of a job well done.
Hussain, this is a very well written memo to your team! It is often difficult to maintain a positive perspective throughout a memo when talking about challenges and needs for improvement, but you definitely acheived that in this memo. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you David. I was just trying to make sentences that fits with each other and sounds encouraging to employees. I read your post and it liked the message where you mentioned to be ready before the harvest time comes. I think that indicates to utilize current time so that team can be benefited when it actually matters. It's kind of true in all businesses but depending on staff and employee engagement, it's effectiveness is varied.
ReplyDeleteGood memo, Hussain. You covered market forces, were specific in citing positive results and clear on the primary focus - manufacturing consistency - for the remainder of the year. Well done.
ReplyDeleteHussain, I really enjoyed reading this memo. In fact, it reminds me of the memos I receive at work from time to time. I am not sure if you did this on purpose or not, but I like how you followed up your negative comments with positive remarks. For example, you started off by noting the year’s challenges and then proceeded to talk about an increase in sales and market share. You do the same again when you discussed a need for improvement followed by a statement recognizing the hard work put in by all employees to make the company successful. I feel as if your comments would make employees realize that, while the company may be faced with challenges, the company’s hard work as a whole will allow XYZ to recover.
